“Jewellery is like the perfect spice, it always complements what is already there.” ~ Diane Von Furstenberg
One of the most sentimental possessions is jewellery. Jewellery has been worn for centuries as a means to enhance appearance as well as to show one’s status. Special jewellery holds memories, represents someone who is close to you or even symbolises a significant time in your life. In some communities, specific types of jewellery are passed on from generation to generation.
Most women love jewellery shopping. Most men do not. That is why it is important for men to identify the style of the recipient before buying any jewellery.
The shape and style of jewellery you choose can work towards enhancing your appearance.
Here are some tips on selecting jewellery that will complement your appearance
1. Necklaces
Necklace styles are a good way to change the people’s perception of your height. If you want to look taller, choose necklaces that are longer V-shaped or Y-shaped because they elongate your appearance. If you want to appear shorter, choose necklaces that rest on your collarbone. The chunkiness of a necklace is an important factor to consider. If you are petite, smaller jewellery will look good on you.
2. Rings and Bracelets
3. Earrings
Depending on the shape of your face, round, rectangle, heart-shaped, oval or square earrings can work towards or against the shape. For round faces, long, square or rectangular shaped earrings will help elongate your face because you do not want to emphasise on its fullness. Heart-faced faces are enhanced by triangular shaped earrings or chandeliers which are wider at the bottom because they widen out your chin. If your face is long or rectangular shaped, wearing longer dangling earrings will tend to elongate your face, smaller stubs will match your face shape. When you are going on a job interview, stick to one earring in each ear, one necklace, one bracelet and one ring to avoid looking busy.
