The Co-operative Bank of Kenya was established in 1965 under the Co-operative Societies Act. On June 27, 2008, it restructured and incorporated under the Companies Act to meet the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) listing requirements. The bank was publicly listed on December 22, 2008. Shares held by 3,805 Co-operative Societies were consolidated under Coop Holdings Co-operative Society Limited, which became the bank’s strategic investor, holding a 64.56% ownership stake.
